Day 3: Cape Town
I landed in Cape Town Sunday, and met up with Mike, who's joining me till Windhoek. We put both our bikes together and there thankfully seemed to be no bike frame calamities post flight.
The next day we set off for a short test ride: took the train out to coastal Simonstown and rode to the (fake) Southern most tip of Africa Cape of Good Hope.
Wildlife seen on the first ride: penguins, whales, baboons, and ostriches.
I heard both my bike and body creak on this test ride: the price to pay for getting neither tuned up before this.
Otherwise the ride was beautiful: between ocean and mountains. The scenery seemed fitting to start this journey.
We spent today back in Cape Town, getting ready to leave its comforts tomorrow. We bought camp dinner groceries (biltong!), took the bikes to a shop, and saw more of the city.
Casual sunrise hike for our rest day:
I also found out the bus I was planning to take from Windhoek to Vic Falls/Livingstone has been cancelled since at least May. So I'll need to improvise that route when I get there.
I may lose data/internet access for a few days when leaving Cape Town tomorrow morning.
